Sandburg Women’s Cross Country Places 33rd at Nationals

Making its sixth appearance at nationals in program history, the Carl Sandburg College women’s cross country team finished 33rd in the NJCAA Division I Championships on Saturday afternoon at the UNM North Golf Course.
The Chargers, who won their first-ever Region IV championship two weeks ago, totaled 834 points in the 38-team field. Sandburg was led by sophomores Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo Girls) and Anna Marino (West Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame), who each finished in the top half of the 290 runners. Jebet was 122nd overall with a time of 21 minutes, 23.77 seconds, and Marino was 128th in 21:30.54.
Other finishers for Sandburg were:
- Caren Maiyo (Eldoret, Kenya) 23:26.45, 214th
- Annadoria Ledbetter (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) 24:09.78, 241st
- Brooke Carlson (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) 26:01.06, 274th
- Annie Sholl (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) 28;59.63, 285th
Iowa Central ran away with the national title, totaling 60 points. New Mexico Junior College was second with 107.
Iowa Western’s Faith Chepengat was the individual national champion, winning by 13 seconds with a time of 16:49.
